witch hat pastries

*this post is not an ad or endorsement of this product. yes storebought is fine, but homemade is almost always better

we made these twice, once with crescent roll dough + another with puff pastry. crescent roll dough comes preforated in triangular shapes which makes this about as easy as it gets for a quick afterschool snack with little to no prep. these are easy to make + pair *so well* with just about anything else you may put on a healthy snack board, so they are a win in my book. refrigerated dough will give you a finished product similar to a biscuit, while puff pastry will result in a more flaky, layered finish.

building blocks:
(serves 2-4+)

1 package of refrigerated crescent roll dough or thawed puff pastry
extra virgin olive oil optional
your favorite herbs/spices optional but suggested as adding flavor to these pastries is a phenomenal way to introduce kids to new flavors in a subtle way. we opted to put different herbs on some while leaving others plain + our kids ate only the seasoned pastries!

directions:
(5 minutes prep, ~20 mins bake time)

prepare a full size sheet pan with parchment paper
preheat oven to 350*
unroll dough into precut triangles / puff pastry will be a square + should be rolled into more of a rectangular shape
cut puff pastry into triangles, if using
shape each hat by rolling part way + turning the unrolled portion to resemble a witch’s hat- be creative!
if using seasonings:
brush or drizzle evoo on the each shape
sprinkle herbs/spices of your choice on each hat; we love sea salt + herbs de provence best
bake as directed, 20 minutes or until golden brown

**for a little more substance, try adding a small sausage into the rolled portion of dough + bake until cooked through.

serve it up: serve these alone, on a shared snack board or alongside small bowls of nuts, olives, pickles, cuts of cheese, or your favorite jams + jellies

we hope you love the way your kids will find
their new favorite foods when they eat from a board!
