everyone has a favorite snack mix! as the weather starts to cool, the thought of warm chex coming out of the oven is the kind of comfort we all crave + the smell of it alone is enough to cure any case of the cool-weather blues. below we’re sharing the mix we’re enjoying this year. there are so many variations out there which is what makes this all so fun; i built this recipe based off another. knowing that most kids prefer little to no spice, we went really light on the seasoning here. if your little snackers enjoy the heat (like i do!), feel free to bump up the kick factor with cayenne or hot sauce! the really beautiful thing about this, is once you buy a box of each ingredient, (+ if you don’t measure, but eyeball the ingredients, you’ll have enough for two batches as written here!
building blocks:
(serves 6-10+)
box of corn chex
box of wheat chex
box of cheez-its
reeses pieces (or your favorite m&m/candy corn candies)
seasoned salt / salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper
worchestshire or soy sauce
unsalted butter
directions:
(10 minutes prep, 50 mins bake time, 5 minutes finish time)
prepare a full size sheet pan with parchment paper
preheat oven to 250*
combine 3C of each ingredient on a sheet pan or in an extra large bowl
melt 6T butter
mix in 1tsp seasoned salt (we needed to mix up our own)
add 1tsp worchestshire or 1tsp soy + 1 tsp sugar in a pinch
stir the butter mixture together
pour over the chex mix
toss to spread the seasoning evenly
bake for 50 minutes
after baking, let mix cool or your candy pieces may melt
serve it up: give it one more good toss to mix the flavors, then serve in a bowl or scoop into cups
best enjoyed while listening to “the great pumpkin charlie brown!”
